Senate GOP Healthcare Bill Coming Thursday with Vote Next Week

A Senate GOP healthcare bill will be released Thursday (June 22), with a vote following the release next week, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Business Insider reports that the bill had speculated for some time.

Before a vote takes place, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) must release its report on the bill; this should occur next week.

With such a short time between the bill’s release and subsequent vote, there will not be much time for debate.

McConnell had previously self-imposed a deadline of July 4 for the vote; meeting this deadline will avoid public scrutiny. However, there is much to be decided before then.

The two sides reportedly disagree on several key issues, and McConnell cannot lose any more than two members of his conference for the bill to pass.

Until then, Republican officials have been sending parts of the bill to the CBO to get preliminary scoring.
