Russell Wilson Defends Faith after Calling 'Fifty Shades' a 'Great Movie'

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson defended his faith on social media after catching criticism for calling “Fifty Shades of Grey” a “great movie.”

The Christian Post reports that the Christian athlete wrote on Twitter that he enjoyed the controversial film, but took heat for the comment from some of his followers.

Wilson wrote, "Thanks for the early showing of #50ShadesOfGrey late last night.. #EmeraldCity Great movie.”

After negative comments poured in, Wilson said that his choice to watch the movie did not negate his faith.

"Saw a movie filmed in the town I call home. Provocative/disturbing no doubt but that does not make me less Faithful. Have a blessed day!" Wilson wrote on Twitter.

The NFL star has been open about his Christian faith during his time in the spotlight.

At Super Bowl Media Day, the 26-year-old football player told reporters that in his life, “God comes first, family and friends come second, and football comes third.”
