Pro-Life Group Defeats ‘Pro-Life Traitor’ in Legislative Battle

George Holding, a pro-life candidate, defeated longtime pro-life movement “public enemy number one” Congresswoman Renee Ellmers in the primary election for North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District.

“Thankfully, we’ve been given the chance to send Rep. Ellmers packing,” said National Right to Life president Carol Tobias. “George Holding is a pro-life stalwart who was always taken a pro-life position – at home and in Washington. George Holding is the kind of congressman the babies can depend on.

According to LifeNews.com, Ellmers is considered a “pro-life traitor.” Just before the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, congressional leaders had planned to bring a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks, but Ellmers insisted that the bill needed rape and incest exceptions.

Republicans had to pull the bill and rework it until it eventually passed.

Another group, the Susan B. Anthony List, also worked against Ellmers this year to elect another representative. They launched a “Dump Ellmers” campaign after Ellmers worked in 2015 against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

“Susan B. Anthony List exists to support and amplify pro-life women’s voices. Rep. Renee Ellmers was our ally until she led the charge to derail the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. That’s why we had to flex the political muscle of the pro-life movement,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA List president and a North Carolina native. “She has her own failed leadership to blame for this loss.”
