Pheonix: Catholic Church Shooting Kills Priest, Another Critically Injured

A shooting in a downtown Phoenix Catholic church has left one priest dead and another critically injured. Officials received a 911 call around 9 p.m. Wednesday night regarding the incident at the Mother of Mercy Mission Catholic Church. 

Father Kenneth Walker, 28, died in the attack; Father Joseph Terra, 56, suffered critical injuries reports NBC News.

“We are stunned and deeply saddened to learn of the tragic assault perpetrated last night,” said the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Phoenix in a statement. 

“The police are still gathering information and trying to sort through the details of this senseless act of violence. We ask that people offer prayers for both priests, the religious community, their families and the parish.”

Authorities remain in search of the attacker.
