Pastor Andy Stanley Says Those Who Don't Attend a Large Church are 'Selfish'

Pastor Andy Stanley has said in a sermon that people who refuse to attend a large church are “selfish” and don’t care about cultivating a love for church in their kids.

Pulpit and Pen reports that in a sermon he preached on February 28, 2016, Stanley talked about the benefits of attending a church with more than a couple hundred people.

Stanley said attending a church that has separate youth groups for middle schoolers and high schoolers and many people with whom to interact will help kids to make friends and continue to attend church when they get older and go off to college.

Stanley even asserted that “if you don’t go to a large church, you are so stinking selfish…and don’t care about your kids.”

Pulpit and Pen notes that Stanley appears to believe that the primary function of church is “friend-making” rather than hearing the Gospel preached.
