A Paralympic swimmer from Northern Ireland recently won her second gold medal and used the opportunity to thank God.
According to ChristianToday.com, 20-year-old Bethany Firth won gold in the 200 meter freestyle at the Rio Paralympic Games.
Directly after finishing the race, Firth folded her hands in prayer, looked heavenward and said, “Thank you God, thank you.”
She continued to praise God and talk about her faith in her post-race interview: "I'm just so thankful it all came together. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone back home, the church, my family, everyone supporting me, and sending me so many lovely messages."
"I'm so chuffed with that but I couldn't have done it without the support of everyone back home - especially my church and my family," she continued. "God puts challenges in your way but shows you a path if you work hard and put your mind to it. Hopefully there's many more medals to come for the rest of the team.”
Firth is the daughter of a former Baptist minister who is now a religious education teacher. Although she has a mental disability that causes her to struggle with short-term memory loss, she doesn’t allow this to hold her back from her goals. She also won gold at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
