Pakistan: Monsoon Flooding Brings Death Toll to 118

The death toll from flash floods caused by seasonal monsoon rains in Pakistan has risen to 118. The torrential rain brought in by the strong monsoon winds began in mid-July and has affected more than 800,000 people in the Pakistani region.

2,275 villages have been impacted, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Pakistani part of Kashmir, and the southern part of eastern Punjab province all experiencing evacuations and death tolls.

The northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has experienced the highest death toll with 59 reported deaths, according to ABC News

The National Disaster Management Authority and the Pakistani military are initiating relief efforts, including evacuating people and providing relief goods.

Natural disasters and evacuations due to seasonal monsoons are a yearly occurrence in many parts of Pakistan, but the loss of life and property remains devastating.

A statement issued by the Pakistani army reported that chief Gen. Raheel Sharif expressed deep regret over the devastation and the loss of life and property.

Weather conditions in Pakistan are slated to improve in the coming week as relief efforts continue.
