Obama Backs Nigerian President in War against Boko Haram, Pledges $5 Million to Cause

President Obama is meeting with with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari this week to discuss plans to defeat Boko Haram. The Christian Post reports Buhari arrived at the White House yesterday (July 21).

President Obama expressed his support for Buhari’s fight against the terror group saying Buhari has “a very clear agenda in defeating Boko Haram extremists of all sorts inside his country.”

Obama has pledged $5 million to fund Nigeria’s military since Buhari was elected earlier this year.

Defeating Boko Haram is imperative for the nation, as the terror group has killed thousands and displaced millions of people across Nigeria since its inception.

The President is also expected to discuss combating corruption in Nigeria, public health and climate change in the meetings with Buhari.

Obama referred to Nigeria as “one of the most important countries” in Africa.
