North Korea Says It Will Punish Anyone Examining Human Rights Abuses

North Korea’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea has announced it will “ruthlessly punish” anyone who contributes to the UN’s investigation into human rights violations in the nation.

The announcement followed a report by the UN which cataloged numerous “unspeakable atrocities” that were occurring in the country.

“These crime against humanity entail extermination, murder, enslavement, torture, imprisonment, rape, forced abortions and other sexual violence, persecution on political, religious, racial and gender grounds, the forcible transfer of populations, the enforced disappearance of persons and the inhumane act of knowingly causing prolonged starvation,” said the UN report.

The UN cited a need for a field office to be run in South Korea to ensure the safety of North Koreans reports Euro News

North Korea believes that the office would become an “anti-North Korean plot-breeding organization.” The statement from the Committee said that South Korean President Park Geun-hye and other human rights advocates would “pay the price” for the investigation.
