Niger Christians Forgive Extremists that Destroyed Dozens of Churches

Islamic extremists destroyed dozens of Niger churches and several Christian homes in January. The militants swept through the capital city of Niamey setting fire to buildings in their path.

Pastor Musa Issa recounted the destruction of Bethel Horizon Church.

"They took pews, Bibles, chairs and sound equipment then set them on fire," he said. “They did this while chanting, 'Allahu Akbar!' I felt so sad. I started to cry."

Another pastor, Boureima Kimso reported 69 church and 11 homes were burned down within a few hours.

Charisma News reports Christians in Niamey are now moving forward with their lives and have forgiven the attackers.

Ruth Jadi, a pastor’s wife who lost both her church and home in the attack, said she forgives the mobbers for their actions.

"My prayer is that they would come to know Jesus and that the Lord would touch them even in a dream,” she said. “I want God to do to them what He did to Paul the Apostle when he persecuted Christians. God touched him on his way to Damascus. I want those men to experience the same touch from God!"

Issa has also forgiven the extremists and developed friendships with his Muslim neighbors who fought against the mob in January.
