New Film Will Tell Story behind MercyMe National Hit 'I Can Only Imagine'

A new Christian film will soon be released based on the popular Christian song “I Can Only Imagine” by the band MercyMe.

According to Christian Today, the film will have the same title as the song and will star Dennis Quaid.

A new promotional video for the film featured The Ervin brothers, who are making the film, as well as MercyMe frontman Bart Millard, and some of the film’s cast members.

The film is based off of the song “I Can Only Imagine” which became a national hit, even beyond Christian radio stations, and went on to become the “most played Christian radio single in history.”

The film will focus on the story behind the creation of the song, which Millard wrote after the death of his father.

"It's very uplifting, about how one can really have a complete change in one's heart and how much you can move the earth with that," explained Quaid.

"It's all about the redemption quality of the whole thing. It's the fact that if the Gospel can change that dude it can change anybody," Bart Millard added in the promotional video.

The Erwin brothers have produced other popular Christian films such as Woodlawn and October Baby.

The new film is set to be released in spring 2018.
