Naghmeh Abedini, wife of imprisoned Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini, has shared on social media that following Jesus includes sacrifice.
According to Breaking Christian News, Naghmeh began the new year with a three-week fast. She has been vocal about advocating for her husband’s release, although a couple months ago she stepped back from her public life to spend time in prayer and to deal with marital issues between herself and Saeed.
Saeed is imprisoned in a dangerous Iranian prison on charges that he posed a threat to the government. Naghmeh says he is imprisoned for his faith.
"The focus of the fast is to spend more time in the presence of the Lord and to draw closer to the heart of God. I will be sharing Scripture and what the Lord lays on my heart for each day,” Naghmeh posted on Facebook.
She then went on to talk about the cost of following Christ: "When I became a follower of Jesus at the age of 9 I had to let go of all I had been taught as a Muslim despite the cost and the rejection and the persecution that came from my own family.”
"In the same way if you want to follow Jesus, then you will have to let go of all you have been taught and have believed and be willing to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and accept the Bible as God's Living Word and the final authority in your life despite the cost," she wrote.
The American Center for Law and Justice, which represents the Abedini family, was contacted for a statement.
“In recent days, Naghmeh—Pastor Saeed's wife—has revealed that she is dealing with some very serious personal issues inside her family. She has asked for privacy and prayer. We are respecting her request. The ACLJ will not have any comment on the personal issues that she is addressing," the ACLJ told CBN News.
