Libya: Gunmen Kidnap 13 Egyptian Christians

Thirteen Egyptians were kidnapped in Libya Saturday (Jan. 3) in the central city of Sirte. Al Jazeera reports that the Coptic Christians were taken just days after a group of seven Christians were abducted.

According to witness Hanna Aziz, the abductors went through a residence where the Egyptians were staying for work, asking for identification papers. Muslims were left alone but Christians were handcuffed and taken.

Aziz told the AP, "They were 15 armed and masked men who came in four vehicles. They had a list of full names of Christians in the building. While checking IDs, Muslims were left aside while Christians were grabbed.”

Aziz said he did not open his door to the abductors.

"I heard my friends screaming but they were quickly shushed at gunpoint. After that, we heard nothing.”

He continued, "I am still in my room waiting for them to take me. I want to die with them.”
