Recent deadly attacks by militants in the northern region of Kenya have caused public sector workers including teachers and doctors to evacuate the area. Christian Today reports Kenyan trade unions have urged non-Muslim workers to leave because of security risks.
Wilson Sossion, secretary-general of the teachers' union and also general secretary of Kenya's Trade Union Congress warned, "They (the authorities) must guarantee the safety of workers."
In recent weeks the Somali Islamist group al Shabaab has killed 58 non-Muslim workers.
Reuters reports the militants have mostly targeted Christians and 10,000 teachers and 6,500 other public servants are in harms way.
"It's unfortunate that the likes of the Kenyan National Union of Teachers is going on the media to say civil servants who are non-Muslim should leave," Ali Roba, the governor of northeast Kenya's Mandera County, told Reuters. "Terror is terror, it's affecting us equally."
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announced a change in his security council is forthcoming to address pressure to restrain terrorist attacks.
