Jury Hears Confession of Chris Kyle's Killer in 'American Sniper' Trial

The trial of Eddie Ray Routh continued Monday as prosecutors played a video for the jurors of Routh confessing to the murders of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield.

NBC News reports that Routh has pleaded not guilty of the killing by reason of insanity. According to his lawyers, Routh was in a medically diagnosed psychosis at the time of the murders on Feb. 3, 2013 at the Rough Creek Lodge and Resort shooting range.

In the video, Routh is heard saying, “I knew if I did not take out his soul, he was coming to take mine next.” He then answers “right” and “yes, sir” when he is asked if he understands that what he did was wrong.

Routh continues, “I’m just sorry sorry for what I’ve done, you know, and we can work this out…I guess I need to be doing more things in this town than hurting people.”

An Erath County sheriff also testified Monday that Routh appeared to be “under the influence” when he was arrested.

Routh has been taking medication since the killing of Kyle and Littlefield.
