Julianne Moore Says She Does Not Believe in God, Has Created Her Own Life

Actress Julianne Moore has said that she does not believe in God, rather choosing to believe that people create their own lives. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Moore said that she believes humans create an imaginary structure of the world in order to make sense of it.

“I learned when my mother died five years ago that there is no ‘there’ there,” Moore said. “Structure, it’s all imposed. We impose order and narrative on everything in order to understand it. Otherwise, there’s nothing but chaos.”

The award-winning actress also said that she believes everyone in in control of their own lives.

“The idea that you’re the center of your own narrative and that you can create your life is a great idea. I totally believe it. I’ve been really lucky, but I feel I’ve completely created my own life,” Moore said.

The Blaze reports that Moore first alluded to her atheism in 2002 when a reporter asked what she would like to hear God say to her in Heaven. Moore answered, “Well, I guess you were wrong. I do exist!”
