ISIS Vandalizes Christian Cemetery and Destroys Churches and Monasteries

The Islamic State has reportedly vandalized a Christian cemetery and destroyed a monastery and many homes.

The Christian Post reports that on Nov. 27 ISIS militants vandalized two cemeteries in Kirkuk. They knocked over gravestones and tore graves open, leaving them exposed.

The Assyrian International News Agency published photos of the defiled graves. In addition to the desecration of the cemetery, the militants attacked 11 Assyrian churches and monasteries.

ISIS has continued to enact violence in the region, including bombing 10 Assyrian homes a few days ago and threatening to bomb other villages.

In August, nearly 200,000 Assyrians fled their homes in Iraq after ISIS invaded the Nineveh Plains.

ISIS did, however, free 25 more of the Assyrian Christians whom they captured in February and were holding as hostages. Thus far, the militants have released 148 of the 230 captured individuals.
