Imprisoned Iranian Christian Refuses to End Hunger Strike Protest

An Iranian Christian woman is refusing to cease her hunger strike which she began to protest her unjust imprisonment.

According to ChristianToday.com, Maryam Naghash Zargaran said she will continue to fast until Iranian authorities acknowledge her demands.

Zargaran was imprisoned in 2013, along with Pastor Saeed Abedini. Both were reportedly targeted for their Christian faith, although Abedini was released earlier this year.

Zargaran’s parents fear for their daughter’s life because of the conditions of the prison and because Zargaran already had medical issues when she came to the prison.

"She also said she will not accept medical treatment at the prison clinic because the last time she was there the physician... insulted her and called her a liar," said Zargaran’s mother, Zahra Pour-Nouhi Langroudi.

"I demand my daughter's unconditional freedom,” Langroudi continued. “I have been going to the offices of the prosecutor and the Supreme Court every day, but no one gives me a straight answer. They are indifferent. I don't know what else to do for my child's freedom."

Zargaran was sentenced to four years in prison. She has served three.
