Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made moves to secure the lead in the Democratic nomination race at the first Democratic debate.
Clinton was the main target during Tuesday’s debate, according to an analysis of the debate by USA Today. She is the frontrunner for the party’s nomination.
On her use of private email: “It wasn’t the best choice,” she said.
A special House panel is investigating her email use. Clinton is scheduled to testify before a House committee next week about her email use.
Bernie Sanders, also a contender for the Democratic nomination, took questions on how he would serve as commander in chief in light of his conscientious objector status during the Vietnam War.
Vice President Joe Biden is expected to make an official announcement about his run for the presidential seat, but he has said he isn’t sure yet.
According to USA Today, democratic voters are “younger, more racially diverse and more dominated by the East and West coasts.”
“As a result, the political landscape is friendly to Sanders' populist message for expansive government social programs, higher taxes on the wealthy and tougher regulations on Wall Street.”
Other candidates for the democratic nomination include: Jim Webb, former Virginia senator; Lincoln Chafee, former Rhode Island governor; and Martin O’Malley, former Maryland governor.
O’Malley endorsed Clinton in 2008.
