Gay Anglican Priest Loses License for Marrying Partner

Gay priest Canon Jeremy Pemberton has lost his license to preach as a member of the Anglican clergy for marrying his partner. Pemberton married Laurence Cunnington in April; in response, the denomination revoked his license on June 22.

Charisma News reports that Pemberton has remained a chaplain in several hospitals in the English Midlands.

England recently changes its laws to permit same-sex marriage, but the House of Bishops doctrine prohibits homosexual clergy members from marrying partners.

Another Anglican priest, Andrew Cain, married his partner on Saturday. There is no news as of yet if the church will take disciplinary action.

Inclusive Church member Simon Sarmiento said, “If the bishops continue to take disciplinary action against clergy getting married they must expect a backlash.”
