Naghmeh Abedini is asking Christians around the world to pray for her husband’s release from prison on Sept. 26, the third anniversary of his imprisonment.
American Pastor Saeed Abedini was arrested while in Iran to help with the construction of a secular orphanage. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, and has endured brutal beatings and physical harm from prison guards and other inmates since his imprisonment.
Evangelical leader Franklin Graham has announced that he will join in the prayer vigil on Sept. 26 and has invited all Christians to pray for Abedini as well.
On his Facebook page, Graham wrote, "September 26 will mark three years since Saeed was imprisoned, and his wife Naghmeh is holding a prayer vigil that day at noon. People all around the world will be praying for his freedom and for the persecuted church. Please pray that Saeed and the other three Americans in Iran will be released soon—and share this with others who will pray."
Billygraham.org reports there were 600 prayer vigils in 33 countries for Abedini last year. So far, there are 500 prayer vigils registered this year, including vigils in all 50 states. To find a prayer vigil near you, visit BeHeardProject.com.
