Faith Groups Stand with Refugees and Provide Aid

A number of Christian aid organizations are reaching out to help the thousands of refugees fleeing the Middle East.

The Christian Post reports that Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian humanitarian organization headed by Franklin Graham, is partnering with local churches to provide 2,000 backpacks to displaced refugees in the Macedonian area.

The backpacks are filled with toiletries for hygiene, blankets, towels, diapers, granola bars, and some candy.

Dr. Natalie McDermott, who works with Samaritan’s Purse, stated that the organization seeks to provide physical necessities as a way to show Christ’s love.

"Our goal with Sam's Purse is to be the hands and feet of Jesus; it's to meet people where they're at and bring them love in a practical way by meeting their needs," Dr. McDermott said.

Other efforts to help refugees are also underway.

The Christian Broadcasting Network’s has launched a program called “Operation Blessing” which will distribute food to refugees in Hungary. Operation Blessing will also distribute tarps to the refugees so that they can erect shelters to keep warm in the coming winter months.

The organization works with the U.N. and other organizations in an effort to provide for the refugees, many of whom are trying to enter countries like Hungary and Serbia even when the governments of those countries try to prevent them.
