Despite Obama's Visit, Franklin Graham Says 'Cuba is Still a Communist Dictatorship'

Evangelist Franklin Graham said President Barack Obama will be able to see “real poverty and horrors” in Cuba during the president’s trip to Cuba this week.

But Graham said he doubts the president and his wife will see those truths.

Obama landed in Cuba on Sunday and is the first U.S. president to visit in 88 years.

“Everyone needs to realize that Cuba is still a communist dictatorship that holds its more than 11 million people hostage to their whims,” Graham wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

“The Castros are responsible for the imprisonment and execution of thousands of innocent people and have kept the country in economic and political chains for decades,” Graham continued. “Dissent is not tolerated — people of conscience are still arrested, such as the Ladies in White who were arrested the day the president arrived.”

According to The Blaze, Graham is encouraging Christians to pray for Cuba.

Graham is on tour as part of his “Decision America Tour.”

Meanwhile, American churches are hoping that with U.S.-Cuba relations being restored, there will be more opportunities to minister in Cuba.

However, Cuban pastors are worried that if a Republican wins the White House, relations could change.

"They would really love to have church-to-church partnerships where people could come down and help them start agricultural projects and other micro businesses that would allow them to meet their own expenses to do community outreach," said Brian Stewart, founder of Action Cuba.

Currently, the Cuban government requires visas to visit and restricts missionaries to work with only one Cuban denomination per visit.
