Dangerous ‘Do it Yourself’ Abortions on the Rise

Abortionist rights activists are now promoting “do it yourself” abortions, in which women have access to abortion-inducing drugs they can take at home.

LifeNews.com reports that abortion supporters allege that since the number of abortion providers has dropped in the U.S. due to more pro-life legislation, there is an increased demand for abortion, and one way to meet this demand is to make abortion available for women to carry out at home, without the assistance of a medical professional.

Randall O’Bannon, a pro-life researcher, said that one abortion group’s website already offers a way for women to perform abortions by themselves. The group has women fill out an online form requesting abortion-inducing drugs in the mail.

Raimundo Rojas, a leader with the National Right to Life Committee, says that two drugs are typically used to induce abortions: mifepristone and misoprostol. Misoprostol, which is cheaper than mifepristone, is often sold on the black market in poor countries and areas, says Rojas.

This raises concerns on the safety of this drug. “Do they care about women?” Rojas asked, referring to abortion groups. “No. They care about an ideology.”

“All these things make it easier for the [abortion] clinic … but don’t necessarily make it safer for the woman,” added O’Bannon. “We’re seeing a full-blown promotion of do-it-yourself abortions.”
