Christian Zionists to Flood UNESCO with Bibles after Organization Calls Jerusalem by Arabic Name

A Christian Zionist organization is asking its members to send thousands of Bibles to USESCO after the group approved a resolution that referred to Jerusalem’s Old City by its Arabic name.

The campaign from the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem is meant to “drive home...that Jews and Christians have a much more genuine, historic connection to Jerusalem and the Temple than Muslims."

Said ICEJ Executive Director Dr. Jürgen Bühler: "We were very shocked and disappointed that UNESCO would adopt such a flawed resolution. Most of us view these diplomats as being principled and well-educated. But apparently, some of them forgot their history lessons, and we are sending them Bibles to refresh their memory.”

UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee passed a resolution to approve a walled area of the Old City on a list of endangered sites and referred to the site by its Arabic name.

Jews and Christians know the site as the Temple Mount.

"We are asking Christians all over the globe to take a Bible, use a highlighter and mark some of the many passages where it speaks of 'Jerusalem' and the 'Temple', and then mail it to the UNESCO headquarters in Paris,” the appeal on the ICEJ’s website says.

But Jeremy Moodey, chief executive of Embrace the Middle East, called the appeal an “overreaction.”

"ICEJ supporters would be better advised to use their highlighters to mark the many Biblical commitments to justice, which is in desperately short supply in Israel/Palestine."
