A newly released report claims that British abortion clinics have failed to record half of abortions that were performed on Down’s syndrome babies in 2012. Many of the abortions of Down babies that were recorded, were misclassified as “social” abortions.
The National Down’s Syndrome Cytogenetic Register (NDSCR) report says that of the 994 aborted babies with Down’s syndrome, only 496 were recorded with the Department of Health. About half of Down’s Syndrome abortions were properly documented in 2011, as well; 410 of 937 abortions were recorded.
Conservative politician Fiona Bruce said, “Worryingly, the department appears to have made no attempt to see that the law is properly enforced. We now know that nearly half of abortions for Down’s syndrome were incorrectly recorded. How many doctors were referred for investigation? None.”
Professor Joan Morris of the NDSCR said that the method to record abortions of Down’s Syndrome babies is outdated and tedious.
“There is a form with a box to tick and there is no envelope provided. The doctor has to find the envelope and write the correct address on it. It is not a system designed to be easy in a busy clinical setting.”
According to Breitbart, the NDSCR held more accurate documentation of abortions than the British Department of Health.
