Ben Carson Calls for Surveillance of Churches and Mosques to Counter Terrorism

Presidential candidate Ben Carson is asking for better surveillance of churches and mosques and places “where there is a lot of radicalization going on.”

According to Christian Today, Carson said those “anti-American” places should be monitored.

"I would be in favor of monitoring a mosque or any church or any organization or any school or any press corps where there was a lot of radicalization and things that were anti-American," Carson said at a forum in South Carolina.

Carson said the FBI needs more manpower and right now, the FBI can only monitor about 30 to 60 people at a time.

"Hopefully we already have a database of every citizen who is already here," Carson said. "If we don't, we're doing a very poor job."

But Carson added that Muslims shouldn’t be treated differently.

"One of the hallmarks of America is that we treat everybody the same," Carson said. "So if we are just going to pick out a particular group of people based on their religion, based on their race, based on some other things – that's pretty dangerous precedent."

Carson’s statements about increased surveillance come after Donald Trump said that Muslims should register in a database or carry special identification cards.
