Australia: Christian Leaders Join Forces with Local Government to Eradicate Porn

A Christian ministry has joined with local government leaders to launch an effort to combat the harmful effects of pornography in Australia.

The Christian Post reports that Christian ministry City Women of Toowoomba, together with local Toowoomba city leaders are hoping to make their city porn-free.

City Women Chief Executive Letitia Shelton acknowledges that making the city porn-free is an ambitious goal, but she is confident progress will be made.

She compared the porn-free city campaign to the anti-smoking campaign:

“But look at the anti-smoking campaign, there has been a huge reduction in smoking. You'll never stop it, but you can show people the impacts it has on your life."

Recently, a rally was held in Toowoomba to raise awareness of the harmful effects of pornography and ways to prevent it.

Around 250 people gathered at the rally where speakers shared stories about how their lives were affected by porn and participants were given pledge cards titled “A City Free from Porn” which read, "I acknowledge that viewing pornography promotes the exploitation of women and violence against women, and it damages families. I commit that I won't view porn and I will help create a city free from porn."

Other countries, including the U.S. have started campaigns to combat the harmful effects of porn. The state of Utah even declared porn a public health crisis earlier this year.
