Anti-Semitism on the Rise in France

A government official in France maintains the number of anti-Semitic threats and incidents has more than doubled during 2014.

Recently, a 19-year-old Jewish woman was raped. Three men invaded her home in a Paris suburb of Creteil. The woman’s boyfriend contents their apartment complex was targeted because of its large Jewish population.

France's Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve shared the staggering number during a rally on Sunday to protest a violent attack on a young Jewish couple, according to Christian Today.

"We must make the fight against racism and anti-Semitism a national cause," said Cazeneuve.

Approximately 550,000 Jews live in France, the largest Jewish population base in Europe.

"We feel that something has changed: it's no longer just graffiti or minor incidents, these are death threats [against the Jewish community]," Roger Cukierman, the head of Conseil Représentatif des Institutions - the official French affiliate of the World Jewish Congress - told BFM TV.
