Another American Missionary Being Treated for Ebola

Another American has been infected with the Ebola virus. Dr. Rick Sacra, missionary physician for SIM USA stationed in Liberia is reportedly receiving treatment for the disease.

The 51-year-old doctor is the third American to fall victim of the illness while serving in Liberia. Sacra follows Samaritan’s Purse doctor Kent Brantly and SIM USA missionary to contract the virus. The three missionaries reportedly know one another from their work abroad.

NBC News reports that Dr. Sacra was not treating Ebola patients when he contracted the virus. Instead, Sacra was working with pregnant women in Liberia. He has since been quarantined and is receiving treatment in ELWA hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.

Writebol and Brantly moved to the U.S. where they were treated at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. According the SIM USA, there has not yet been any discussion of moving Sacra for treatment.
