ABC Pulls 'Of Kings and Prophets'

There’s an old saying in the world of network television, “Make ten new shows and hope one of them succeeds.” Given recent reports, ABC’s Of Kings and Prophets is dangerously close to becoming the fall season’s first elimination. According to Deadline, the Biblical saga has been pulled from ABC’s original lineup to undergo recasting. While this isn’t uncommon, it doesn’t bode well for the freshman series. Deadline continues,

“Kings And Prophets received mixed reactions at the upfront, and it was a late delivery, with the completed pilot not screened before the network set its fall 2015 schedule. ABC had had big plans for the drama, which hired a showrunner and set up a writers room with an eye toward a series order ahead of the network’s May pickups, but the network brass appear to be cooling off on the show whose future is now in jeopardy. (Last year, Fox moved in to scrap its Ancient Egypt drama Hieroglyph after a lukewarm reception of the pilot at the upfronts.)

Of Kings and Prophets briefly appeared on Crosswalk as one of five new shows Christians should know about, alongside Lucifer and The Real O’Neals. The series is being marketed as an episodic retelling of the life of King David, though it’s unclear how closely the show follows scripture. At the moment, it’s unclear if the series will be cancelled or postponed as a mid-season replacement.
