8-year-old Arson Victim Receiving 195,000 Christmas Cards Per Day

An 8-year-old girl who lost her family to an arson fire and was severely burned herself is receiving thousands of Christmas cards each day this Christmas season.

ABCNews.com reports that in 2013 Sa’fyre Terry lost her father and three younger siblings to an arson fire. The fire also left her severely burned and caused the loss of her right hand and left foot.

But the little girl remains optimistic. She told her aunt, Liz Dolder, who is also her guardian, that she wanted to fill a Christmas tree stand with cards this Christmas.

Her aunt replied that she might “get a few.”

However, through social media, hundreds of thousands of people found out about Sa’fyre’s request and have responded by sending letters, cards, packages, and gifts.

"[We] never thought something like this was possible," said Dolder.

In one day, Sa’fyre received 195,000 letters and cards and more than 3,000 packages. ABCNews.com reports that it took two 2-ton mail trucks and a rented cargo truck just to deliver all the mail to Sa’fyre and the Dolders.

Dolder said Sa’fyre is in awe of the outpouring of support she has received. “She can’t believe it,” Dolder said. “She’s such a humble little girl, too. She really is.”
