24/7 Prayer to be Held for Persecuted Christian Asia Bibi

A 24/7 prayer effort will be held for imprisoned and condemned Christian Asia Bibi, who faces her final appeal of the death penalty next week in Pakistan.

ChristianToday.com reports that Christian mother Bibi was accused by Muslim colleagues of blasphemy against Islam in 2009 and sentenced to the death penalty in 2010. She has gone through a number of unsuccessful appeals, and will make her final appeal next week.

On October 12, religious freedom charity Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) is encouraging supporters to engage in a 24/7 prayer vigil on Bibi’s behalf.

"She needs our prayers now more than ever," CSW said.

Some of the specific prayer requests for which CSW urged believers to pray include:

  • That Asia Bibi would be acquitted of the blasphemy charge
  • That she would have strength during and after the hearing
  • That her lawyer would be protected and given wisdom
  • That the Holy Spirit would be poured out in Pakistan

At least 95 percent of the Pakistani population is Muslim and religious minorities frequently face discrimination.

The U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom said that Pakistan represented “one of the worst situations in the world for religious freedom.”

Pakistan ranks sixth on Open Doors 2016 World Watch List for countries where Christian persecution is worst.
