Burying the Truth

April 22, 2005

A mother in Illinois was recently arrested after she tried to prevent her 14-year-old daughter from having an abortion.

Mom and dad hurried to the Hope Abortion Clinic to find their daughter's name on the roster.

Trying to make contact with her daughter, mom was told by a clinic employee that she couldn't prove her daughter was there.

A medical tech stated, "It's your daughter's rights, it's her body. You have no rights."

At 14, that same little girl can't vote, couldn't buy cigarettes, can't drive a car and couldn't get her ears pierced at the mall without her mother's permission.

But in Illinois, she can get an irreversible surgical procedure that can harm her physically, emotionally and spiritually without notifying the parents.

The 14-year-old tried to get a message to her mom but was told by clinic workers that she had left.

The girl was taken to another facility, given the abortion and told her records would be "buried."

In fact, what was buried was the truth.

I'm Janet Parshall.
